Introduction

St. Mary of Victories is south of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.Historic Saint Mary of Victories Catholic Church, just south of the Gateway Arch, is a splendid and unique part of the heritage of old Saint Louis. Founded in 1843 for German immigrants, it became the city's Hungarian Catholic Church and cultural center in 1957. Its acclaimed architecture, beautiful old paintings, ornate statuary and noted historical personalities have earned it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the few consecrated churches in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, and has a magnificent high altar with hundreds of sacred relics.

Saint Mary’s accordingly offers a classically reverent style of worship in proclaiming the joy of Christ's Gospel to locals and tourists alike. The 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass is mainly in English, with a touch of Hungarian in Scripture and song.

Today St. Mary of Victories proudly serves the descendants of the original immgrants, the Downtown business community, and parishioners from the entire metro area.  Visitors and numerous tourists enjoy the quaint, decorative charm and tranquility of the old church and its landscaped Old World courtyard. Masses, including weddings, funerals and regularly scheduled weekday and weekend services are still held at the parish. A fully equipped church hall and commercial kitchen also operates as part of the parish outreach to the general community and St. Louisans of all faiths.  Please contact the parish office for information on weddings, funerals, hall rentals, or tours, or use our online forms under the 'Resources' tab in the main menu.

Recalling the memories of pioneer St. Louisans -- and waves of immigrant families that helped establish the ethnic neighborhoods of South St. Louis, is also a vital sense of St. Mary of Victories Parish Community. Whether you're from the "old neighborhood" or a grandchild of someone who is, you will receive a warm welcome here, along with St. Louisans of all faiths who value the city's architectural legacy of notable historic churches and historic sites. ALL seem to come back to St. Mary's for important moments in their lives -- whether it's the annual Parish Homecoming Festival in August, the Christmas or Easter celebrations, meetings of ethnic or parish societies, or an interesting tourist outing.

Please pray that our historic and beautiful church, now standing in the shadow of highways and warehouses poised on the brink of a revival, will continue to be Holy Ground for metro St. Louisans for the next century and beyond.

Come worship with us!
